From the people we appoint to the feedback we collect after handover, each stage is designed to protect your home and maintain the standard attached to the Borders Solar name.
We favour experienced local specialists who hold the relevant accreditations for the work they undertake. We also review technical capability, workmanship, communication, reliability and the way they treat customers’ homes.
Every completed Borders Solar installation is reviewed against our quality checklist. We look at installation finish, cable routes, system commissioning, documentation, handover quality and whether the completed work reflects the standard we promised.
After the final installation we ask every customer for a full feedback survey covering workmanship, communication, tidiness, handover and the overall experience. The results feed directly into how we assess our installation partners.
MCS requirements are considered throughout design, installation, commissioning and handover. We work with appropriately accredited partners so qualifying installations can be completed, documented and certified to the applicable MCS requirements.
We aim to work with experienced local and regional specialists who understand the variety of properties, roofs and conditions found throughout the Scottish Borders. Before working with an installation partner, we look beyond price.
We consider experience, technical capability, relevant industry qualifications and accreditations, installation standards, electrical expertise, communication and previous customer experience. We are particularly interested in the details homeowners notice after the work is finished: panel alignment, roof care, cable routes, equipment positioning and how cleanly the property is left.
The installation should look like it belongs on your home — not like equipment has simply been attached to it.Solar panels are important. Protecting the building beneath them is more important. Roof structure, fixing method, panel positioning, access and cable routes are considered before the final installation is confirmed.
The installer completing the work is not the end of our quality process. Completed projects are reviewed against our installation and handover expectations, including finish, commissioning, documentation and customer experience.
Where something does not meet the standard we expect, we want it identified and resolved rather than simply accepted.
A good installation should be safe, neat, properly documented and professionally handed over.Where an installation is being delivered for MCS certification, the design, equipment, installation, commissioning and documentation must meet the applicable MCS requirements. Our approach is to consider those requirements throughout the process rather than treating certification as something added at the end.
Where the applicable requirements are met, the installation can be MCS certified through the appropriately certified installation provider.
Accreditation matters, but it is only one part of the standard. We want installers who combine technical competence with careful workmanship and a professional customer experience.
Our installation partners are assessed continuously, not simply accepted onto a list and forgotten about. We review completed work, customer experience and feedback over time so that the standard is maintained from one project to the next.
If a job does not meet the level we expect, we want to know about it and put it right. That accountability is a core part of how Borders Solar protects its reputation — and your home.
After installation, we want to hear directly from the homeowner. Customers are asked for feedback on communication, workmanship, tidiness, system handover and the overall experience.
That feedback helps us recognise excellent installers, identify areas that could be improved and make better decisions about the partners we continue to work with.
The installer delivers the work. Borders Solar remains interested in how that work was delivered.The Scottish Borders has traditional stone houses, slate roofs, modern developments, rural properties and homes exposed to very different weather conditions. There is no single installation method that is right for every property.
The panel layout, fixing system, inverter location, battery location, cable routes and electrical design should all work around the property.
The system should be designed for the home — not the home forced around the system.The detailed survey helps confirm dimensions, roof condition, access, electrical arrangements, equipment locations and installation requirements. During installation the focus moves to workmanship, electrical safety, roof protection and careful finishing. Once commissioned, the homeowner should receive an appropriate handover explaining the system, monitoring, controls and relevant documentation. Afterwards, Borders Solar asks for feedback on the experience.
